Rm of Fertile Valley

The Rural Municipality (RM) of Fertile Valley is located on the west side of the South Saskatchewan River, about 100 km southwest of Saskatoon. It is said that Fertile Valley was named by early settlers due to the abundant growth of prairie grass. The RM is also lined with rows of caraganas trees, which were planted as shelterbelts to help combat drought and wind in the 1930s. The RM includes the villages of Macrorie and Conquest, as well as the former villages of Ardath, Bounty, Bratton, Surbiton, and Anerley. It has a rural population of 539 spread out over 1,016 square kilometers.

Agriculture is the main industry in the RM, with activities including dryland farming, irrigation, and livestock raising (cattle, sheep, and bison). Highway 15 runs through the middle of the RM from east to west, providing access to Lake Diefenbaker and the Gardiner Dam to the north and south via Highways 45 and 44. Other bodies of water in the RM include Macdonald Creek, Milden Lake, Anerley Lakes, Stockwell Lake, and Coteau Lake.

The RM's municipal office is located in the village of Conquest, just north of Highway 15 or west of Highway 45. The RM was incorporated as a rural municipality on December 13, 1909. The RM of Fertile Valley is governed by an elected municipal council and an appointed administrator, who meet on the second Wednesday of every month. The reeve of the RM is Barry Friesen, and the administrator is L Jean Jones.
