Last Mountain Valley is a rural municipality located in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. It was incorporated as a rural municipality on December 13, 1909 and is home to several communities and localities, including the towns of Govan and the villages of Duval. The area is known for its hilly terrain, including the Last Mountain plateau and the legend of its creation by the Great Chief of the world. Last Mountain Valley is also home to Last Mountain Regional Park, located on the eastern shore of Last Mountain Lake, which is a popular destination for swimming, fishing, and water sports. The park also offers seasonal and daily camping, as well as private cabins, an outdoor pool, and other amenities. The population of Last Mountain Valley has fluctuated over the years, with a peak population of 540 in 1981 and a low of 267 in 2011. The area is known for its rich farming history and is home to a variety of farm land that is available for sale.
The town of Govan - is a small farming town located in the eastern region of the North End of Last Mountain Lake, midway between the towns of Strasbourg and Nokomis on Highway 20. The first known settler arrived in the area in 1903, and by 1906 all of the available homesteads had been occupied. The town was officially founded in 1907 and named after Walter Govan, one of the area's early settlers. It was at its peak population of 500 in 1916. Today, Govan is known for hosting the Old Tyme Fiddle Festival and the Saskatchewan Fiddlers Championships, which are held on the first weekend in July and attract competitors and fans from across North America. The town is also home to the Govan Senior Men's Baseball team, which won the Western Canadian Baseball Championships in 1967 and was inducted into the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame.
The town of Strasbourg - Strasbourg is a town located in the eastern region of Last Mountain Lake, about 80 km north of Regina on Highway 20. It has a population of 760 and is known for its rich history dating back to 1885 when the first German settlers arrived in the area. The town was originally named Strassburg after the European community that had been occupied by Germany, but the spelling was later changed to its present form in 1919. Strasbourg is a market, service, and cultural center for a mixed farming district of approximately 2,500 square km, and it is also a popular tourist destination due to its proximity to Rowan's Ravine Provincial Park and the migratory bird sanctuary on the north end of Last Mountain Lake. The town is home to the Strasbourg and District Museum, which is housed in the 1906 CPR station and displays pioneer and First Nations artifacts. The building was purchased by the community in 1971 after the station had closed the previous year. Farm land is available for sale in the area and is a key part of the local economy.
