With a population of 1,218, it is known for its rich history and cultural diversity. The first settlers, the Milligans, arrived in the area in 1882 and named a nearby body of water "Foam Lake" due to the froth that often formed along its shores. In the 1890s, a group of Icelanders arrived in the region, followed by a wave of Ukrainian immigrants in the early 1900s. The arrival of the railway at Sheho in 1904 encouraged further settlement in the area, leading to the establishment of the Foam Lake townsite in 1907.
