With a population of 1,218, it is known for its rich history and cultural diversity. The first settlers, the Milligans, arrived in the area in 1882 and named a nearby body of water "Foam Lake" due to the froth that often formed along its shores. In the 1890s, a group of Icelanders arrived in the region, followed by a wave of Ukrainian immigrants in the early 1900s.
